 Quick History

The ADL series was developed for the Lancia Gamma Cars from 76 to 84? The series 1 Gamma's had carbs; later cars went to Bosch FI. The Gamma came in two engine sizes 2000cc & 2400cc. The 36 ADL was made for the Gamma 2000. And a 38 ADL was made for the 2400cc engines

The carb has the same base (Bolt Pattern) as a DCD, DMS, ADF, DFV and other twin cam rear drive carbs. The top of the carb is shaped like a DMS, DGV or early spider carb. The stock fiat air cleaner from 75 to 79 will not work.

The Carb has a water activated choke just like the later spider carbs.  The ADL series is a progressive carburetor, meaning the primary barrel opens first then the secondary as opposed to the DCOE or DGAS where both barrels open simultaneously.  The 38 ADL has a ported vacuum port which is great when using the stock 79-85 Electronic Ignition,  (note: The Weber 36 ADL carb does not have a ported vacuum port).

My Engine

1979 2L with 8.9 Pistons, FAZA 35/75 intake cam only, standard exhaust cam retimed to 110 degree overlap.  FI exhaust manifold and down pipe.  Stock 79 Electronic ignition, 1800 manifold with base opened up.  Carburetor is very docile until the second barrel opens then it screams.  You constantly find your self flogging the throttle for the sound and speed.  All in all a fun conversion, much more performance & value then a 34 ADF.   Automatic choke works flawlessly.

Necessary Modifications:
If the carb is to be used with a 75 to 78 1800 manifold, (long Carb Studs) and valve cover mounted throttle bell crank then a 1/2 spacer is necessary
or shorter studs. Otherwise the linkage fouls on the water choke assy. or cam cover. This is because the choke housing is mounted at the front of the carb instead of the back like the ADF series.

A throttle arm from a 77 to 78 ADFA Carb is required, (Part Number 9929184) or you will not have enough throttle movement.  The new linkage moves back the arc of the throttle ball.

Below is a 1/2 spacer on a 1800 manifold Jason at Millers Mule made,

The Throttle rod has to be bent into sort of a lazy S.

Water Choke Outlet needs to be switched with one from a Stock Fiat Spider Carb Part # 0009926475. Only because ADLs come with an X1/9 Style Choke Water outlet.

36ADL before  throttle linkage and choke outlet change.

38ADL after throttle linkage and choke outlet change.

These carburetors are hard to get but well worth it.  Anyone interested should look around wherever the Lancia Gamma was sold and serviced. I found both of my Weber ADLS on EBAY one in Italy and the other in England.
