GENERAL INFORMATION:
Attached are diagrams showing the
cable winding sequence
for both right and left doors of
the X1/9 and 124 Spider.
Also included are the instructions
for the replacement and adjustment of these window regulators.
In addition to the above
information, a list of modifications to the front window regulator system on
late production 131 -4 door models has been enclosed. These modifications allow
for easier operation and service adjustment.
This information should be made
readily available to all service personnel.
124 SPIDER WINDOW REGULATOR
INSTALLATION –ADJUSTMENT
The attached diagrams show the
window regulator cable winding sequence for the right and left door of the 124
Spider.
Follow instructions below for
window regulator installation:
1. DO NOT remove the metal clip
securing the cable tight against the drum until the cable has been strung on
all the pulleys.
2. Attach the window regulator to
the door panel and start the cable on the top front pulley then following the
diagram over, each pulley in turn. String the cable on the adjustable pulley
last. (To make this procedure easier it might be necessary to loosen the
support bar for the lower two pulleys in order to provide more slack in the
cable).
3. Tighten lower pulley support (if
loose).
4. Slightly tension adjustable
pulley and remove the metal clip.
5. Working with the adjustable
pulley, tighten the cable until all slack is removed.
6. Lubricate the cable and pulleys
with light grease.
7. Attach the window to the cable
checking to see that it has full travel in both directions.
8. Check for free operation of both
window and regulator.
NOTE:
Window regulators are
interchangeable for either door.
XI/9 WINDOW REGULATOR INSTALLATION
-ADJUSTMENT

pulley, tighten the cable until all slack is removed.
5. Lubricate the cable and pulley
with light grease.

131 -4 DOOR MODELS FRONT WINDOW
GLASS MODIFICATION
For better understanding, the
number before each description refers to the corresponding number on the
attached drawing. The modifications to this system are as follows:
1. The lower front window channel
bracket, which secures the channel to the door, has been strengthened by
increasing the thickness from 1 mm. (approx. 1/32") to 1.5 mm
(approx. 1/16").
2. The upper slotted snap type
bracket on the front window channel has been redesigned and thickened from l
mm. (approx. 1/32") to 2mm.(approx. 5/64") for increased
reinforcement.
3. The diameter of the holes for
the window regulator adjustment has been increased in size to permit added
adjustment positioning.
4. The support bracket of the glass
has been redesigned to increase flexibility thus compensating for the movement
of the glass.
5. The glass support has been
increased in length and a guide has been added on the front side of the
support. This modification insures proper travel of the glass.
6. The clip, which secured the
rubber weatherstripping inside the rear window channel has been eliminated.
This eliminates possible interference between the weatherstripping and the
glass.
7. The positioning of the upper
bracket on the rear window channel has been modified for alignment purposes.
The new window supports listed in
point 5 are the only part numbers which have been changed (new part #4367698
right side and 4367699 left side). All other parts involved in these
modifications retain the existing part numbers.
